This orange root is a close relative to the Ginger and it has a lot of benefits including anti-inflammatory and cancer preventative properties. The active ingredient of turmeric is called Curcumin and it is released when the Turmeric is cooked preferably in oil (this is why when you make Indian curry you fry up the spices briefly in oil before adding the rest of the ingredients).
The silent inflammation in our bodies damages the organs over time, it prevents proper nutrient metabolism which leads to obesity.
Recent studies show that Depression is linked to inflammation.
There was a double study completed in 2013 with Prozac and Curcumin on patients with major depression where Curcumin showed better results than Prozac.
In another double study for people with Osteoarthritis the Curcumin (Theracumin was the brand used) showed better results than Celebrex. The curcumin not only relieves the Inflammation, but also rebuilds the tissue in the joints
Other benefits of Curcumin are antioxidant, astringent (stops bleeding and tightens tissue), Immune system booster, Liver healing etc.
Add turmeric to your food as it is recommended at least one teaspoon a day for maintenance, but the best way is to take it as Curcumin supplement enhanced with Black pepper extract. The black pepper increases the bio-availability of the Curcumin and it is absorbed better by the body.
One way to get some Turmeric on a daily basis is by making some Golden Milk. See recipe section on how to make it.
